Changes to Public Bus Service 5

Regrettably, owing to limited revenue from the service, service 5, currently operated by GoRide Community Interest Company, under contract to West Berkshire Council, has proved not commercially viable and - with the grant funding from central Government ending, and no additional funding available - GoRide recently confirmed their intention to end the service.

The Council's Transport Services Team has actively investigated other options for sustaining the service, including discussing with other operators and assessing the possibility of operating service 5 in-house using a WBC minibus.

Unfortunately the costs of providing a peak-period service, with school route extensions are prohibitive in the current financial climate, although two journeys will be provided off-peak, as off-peak journeys (compared to peak trips) can be delivered at marginal cost.

The final weekday on which GoRide will operate service 5 will be Friday 23 May.

After this date, school and college students may wish to use alternative local bus services, which are all operated by Newbury & District bus company and are as follows:-
