Performing Arts wowed audiences at local primary schools throughout December with this year's pantomime performance of Peter Pan, with a final performance for friends and family on 16th December 2009.

The second year stars made up the main cast, including Peter, John, Michael, Wendy and Tinkabel (pictured) and were joined by their first year colleagues in supportive roles as Lost Boys, Native Americans and Pirates.

Memorable moments from the show included creative adaptations of Alysha Dickson and Robbie Williams hits and a well choreographed fight scene between most of the main cast. Although every member of the cast was exceptional, the show was often stolen by the comic timings of Jessica Burgess and Josh Cook as Miss Smee and Michael Darling respectively.

Proud course leader Vicky Scott commended the BTEC National students for their hard work and creativity as part of their "Performing for Children" unit.

Giving Tree encourages support for victims

A special tree has been placed inside Newbury College this Christmas season to encourage people to support victims of domestic abuse.

The Giving Tree is decorated with white ribbons to mark a campaign to stop violence against women and people are invited to place a present for someone who has been helped by Berkshire Women’s Aid under it.

West Berkshire Domestic Abuse Forum and abuse reduction co-ordinator Jo McIntyre said: “Each ribbon has a label that represents a real person supported by Berkshire Women’s Aid - either a mother or a child or a single woman,” she said. “Christmas is a particularly hard time for families because of financial strains and because they spend so much time together and calls to helplines rise.”

The tree will be at the college until shortly before Christmas and has already been a huge success with trolley loads of gifts already collected.

Berkshire Women’s Aid is a registered charity which offers informal and confidential support to women who are experiencing violence at home through an Outreach service; staff operate from "surgeries" at community venues in West Berkshire and elsewhere. They can be contacted on the helpline 0118 950 4003 (10am-5pm weekdays, and outside these times in emergencies).

Over £1123 Raised for Children in Need

Congratulations and a massive thank you to everyone who helped with this year's fundraising efforts for Children in Need.

Your combined efforts have helped raise a grand total of £1123.20 for the BBC appeal which supports disadvantaged children across the UK.

Activities this year included fancy dress, pudsey's quiz, face painting, waxing, bagpiping, tug of war, raffles, cakes, pizza, bingo, bucket shaking, and so much more.
