Registrations have now opened, Thursday 20 December, for the 2019 Roc 10K. The race which will take place on Sunday 26 May is this year raising money for selected charity Wooden Spoon and Newbury Athletics Club.
This will be the first year that Roc Technologies will have solo sponsorship of the event, with last years’ being supported jointly by Roc and The Good Exchange. The 2018 race raised £13,354.96 from the entries to both the 10K and supporting junior races and was divided equally between Newbury Athletics Club and the 2018 charity PALS West Berkshire.
CEO for Roc, Matt Franklin, said, “We’re delighted to be sponsoring the Roc 10K again this year and it gives me great pleasure to announce Wooden Spoon as the chosen charity. As a Newbury-based company we are committed to giving back to the local community and supporting the Roc 10K and raising money for causes in the local area is great way to do so.”
Race Director, Becky Elsmere, added, “We’re pleased to be opening the race entries at Christmas – as we know people like to set goals for the New Year and what better than completing the Roc 10K?”
Ray Hague, Chairman of Wooden Spoon Chiltern said, “We are honoured to be the chosen charity of this years’ Roc 10K. We’re always looking for new ways in which we can raise money for local causes and the Roc 10K is an exciting new project for us to be involved in. The money raised for Wooden Spoon will go towards a local community project”.
Wooden Spoon is a charity that changes children’s lives through the power of rugby. Each year they fund around 70 projects, from community programmes and specialist playgrounds to medical treatment centres and sensory rooms. Since 1983, they have distributed over £26 million to more than 700 projects, helping more than a million children. Projects that have been helped by the Wooden Spoon include: a horticultural classroom at Priors Court, a classroom refurbishment at Mary Hare Foundation, and horses for Lambourne RDA.
People wishing to enter the race can do so by going to the Newbury Athletic Club website http://www.newburyac.org.uk/road-running/newbury10k where there will be links to the official entry form.
